A mother/son conversation....

Riiiiiiiinnnnnnnggggggggg

Mom:  Hello?

Son:  Hi!

Mom:  Oh, hi dear.  How are you?  Say, do you think I could call you back in about 10 minutes.  I just colored my hair and I have to rinse it out right away and then I'll call you on Skype.  Is that OK.

Son:  Sure.  Call me back then.

Mom:  OK dear.  Bye.

(Ten minutes later on Skype)

Bump...bump...bump...bumpbumpbump (the sound of the Skype video call)

Mom:  Oh, there you are dear.....Hi...it's good to "see" you.  I just finished rinsing the color out of my hair.  I feel like a new woman!

Son:  Hi...it's good to see you too...Kim and I were just wondering why both our moms color their hair....and color it pretty much the same color too.

Mom:  I think I color my hair from habit.  I've been coloring it before my hair turned grey....probably started doing the color thing 35 years ago.  Perhaps one of these days I'll let it go grey but I feel like it's a hard change to make.

Son:  No matter....I just wondered why you color your hair and not let it go your natural color.

Mom:  I don't know.  But it's a pretty common practice...except most folks these days go for the streaked look.  It appears Kim's mom and I have good taste.

Son:  Well, you have the same taste anyway.

Mom:  Ya, I'd call it good taste.  Did I tell you my hairdresser, Tracy, said my hair type was "thick wooly" hair?  I think that's so funny.  Sounds like I have hair like a sheep.

Son:  Ya, that's pretty funny alright.

Mom:  Looks like you're growing your hair.

Son:  Ya, well I was thinking of cutting it tonight.  It's a lot less work.

(and that was a real-live conversation between son and I....I didn't think he even thought about stuff like this, let alone discussing it with me....but it was an interesting conversation at any rate).

My aunt decided one day to stop dying her hair. She decided to let her hair be gray. Maybe letting your hair go gray is a sign of being comfortable with growing older.

Not that there's anything wrong with it but I didn't actually think of it, Kim pointed it out.
