Here's my church home. It's a place I make a point of coming to every Sunday morning...not the building
per se....oh no....."the church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a dwelling place......the church is a people......". Those are the words to a song we have sung over the years to remind us that this place...this building...this sanctuary is NOT the church. THE CHURCH IS THE PEOPLE!!!
So, we the people at Gateway will come together on June 12 for a neighborhood BBQ. Should be a blast and we trust that the neighborhood will recognize our genuine care for others, our desire to be of help wherever it is needed and that we all have good times together here....fun actually. God is present and we recognize our need of Him.....most of the time.
You see, we all come to this place broken, hurt, ill, depressed, unhappy and wondering about life and how to live it and we ask the question initially, "What can God do for ME?" After being here a while our attitudes change as we come into relationship with one another and with the God of the universe and we end up asking the question, "What can I do for God?".
Funny how that goes. We begin our relationship with God looking inward and we end up looking outward. It's just what happens when we recognize other's needs above our own. Ya, it's just funny.....
Tomorrow, we shall be asking for prayer for husband and his upcoming surgery. I'll be asking God about some of you, too....some of you have parents who are failing and close to death, some of you are depressed, others of you have children who are making very bad choices and those choices are affecting the entire family and some of you are having to make some difficult decisions regarding jobs and places to live.
Our God is quite capable of looking after all our needs and answering our prayers for our good. Yes, he is.
