Being thankful...

It's the season of Thanksgiving, where we acknowledge all we have been given by our Creator.

Even though it may be a time to be thankful, it may also be a time when we find it difficult to be thankful. Not only that, we just don't WANT to be thankful. We simply don't have it in us. But the Bible tells us to be thankful in all circumstances.....

Perhaps life has been a whole sock full of nothing.

Maybe a terminal illness looms before us.

What about the death of a child or someone very close to us. A death that perhaps could have been avoided.

A young man who had shared a pastoral class last year with our son, died on Sunday. He took his own life.

The darkness sometimes overtakes our world. It sends us reeling.

So, if I have a friend who needs me, who needs me to listen and not be judged, with God's help, I will do that.

We need to be heard. We need safe places to go and be ourselves. We need the Christian community to take the lead in this, do we not?

While I am able to be thankful this Thanksgiving for all I have, I know there are those who can't be thankful right now. May God watch over their hearts to keep them soft and guard their minds from the Evil one.

I agree we, as Christians, need to take the lead in creating safe environments for hurting people.
