Sometimes we face great storms in life where the smashing waves attempt a coup. Everything they have is thrown at us, coming from every angle and direction. There are some days they actually overtake us and we begin to sink. But in the midst of our drowning, we find we are made of much stronger stuff. We begin to kick and push ourselves to the top, gasping for air and sucking back a gallon of water! In fact, we kick so hard we kick sand. Imagine. The waves are crashing around us and we simply stand up on the sandy bottom. We find we've been thrashing around in two feet of water, not realizing how silly we must look as we rise like a phoenix over what we believed to be waves that were out to get us!
Life is just like that sometimes, isn't it? We think we're in the most difficult of situations....until we take on a different perspective and realize our folly. Our thrashing about didn't get us anywhere, other than a shmucked-up ego.
Just like these waves during one of Waskesiu Lake's storms this summer. They smash and pound that breakwater, like a banshee. The waves even attempt to get around the breakwater by making their own little river. But that solid cement breakwater isn't going anywhere. It knows that wind and waves will pummel it each year and even when the water goes around it, it is standing it's ground!
God gives me an internal strength of sorts. He comes and sets up house right down in my deepest self. He stays there too, during the storms of life, like that breakwater. He's solid stuff and He's not going anywhere. Our ego or pride gets us all wound up and we kick and make all kinds of weird noises while He waits for us to calm down and listen to Him. He's solid and sure, when I'm acting like a crazy person. Good thing too! I need an anchor!
Ahoy there matey! How many feet of water would you be a thrashin' in??? Arrrrrrrrrgggghhhhhhh

It's true! So many of our 'problems' are really just a matter of perspective and, relatively, are not nearly as important as we'd like to believe, though that doesn't mean they're any less real or that we don't need to face them.
But we can face them with greater clarity and sanity when we're standing on 'solid ground,' as you've spoken about, where we find the space to respond most appropriately to whatever waves come our way.
I think what you have to share through your writing is very worthwhile:)
It's always good to stand and face our mistakes, acts of selfishness, pride etc. head on...when the solid ground is finally under us! I guess it's always there but first we have to 'settle' enough to realize it.:)
Thank you for your continued encouragement, Matt.
