Around our yard in the early morning...

The early morning sun sprays the tree tips with vibrant gold; the once bright orange begonias hang on for dear life, not able to keep their straightness without assistance, looking like elderly ladies with too much makeup for their age; the ornamental crabs flaunt their bold reds to passing birds who will, in due time, come and devour their luciousness; and branches continue to close up their veins, knowing it is the only thing that will save them until the warmth of spring returns.
All of these things are happening in our yard...every morning....probably in your yard too.
Early morning in any yard, I believe, is the most lovely of all times. There is a freshness and crispness that forces my senses to heighten. The lushness of the green grass gives way to the mounting mounds of aging leaves, soon to be buried in the mulch pile. The smell of their rotting becomes pungent with the all-too-familiar scent of autumn........
The rains will come this weekend quickening the death process for all vegetation....seems like it was just yesterday we watched with great anticipation as they burst into their green lovliness...and now......
